Term is derived from the Latin word vino (found in all languages, denoting an exceptional beverage produced, and consumed, by man for thousands of years; in Tamil, a Dravidian language, it also has the meaning of joy, happiness, and hospitality), and the Greek word pedia (for education and knowledge). Knowledge is a source and means of empowerment, and this is a small compendium of knowledge about wine (viticulture and oenology, and related scientific and practical disciplines). It also provides information on fine wine producers, local and global, as well as notable wine institutions. is also meant to serve as a vehicle for providing continuing education in all sectors of activities (from production to marketing and consumption), as well as an encouragement to make fine wine an integral part of our dining experience, and of joyous living.
By publishing it on the global Internet network, is made available to a wide range of readers; furthermore, by making those portions dealing with Croatian wine-making and indigenous grape varieties available in English, Italian, German and French, we highlight the Croatian wine-making to all that are interested in its potentials and specifics, and provide visitors to the country of Croatia with essential information on her winegrowing regions and wines.
The author, together with a number of contributors (gathered into an editorial staff), by using the benefits of “wiki-media” and other modern technologies (and by taking into account readers’ suggestions) will keep bringing new knowledge and current events in this culturally and economically interesting and important area.
